Alternative Investments - The Defiinitions

Alternative Investments are the most under utilized investments in Canada.

When managing clients money, our main goal is to build a strong portfolio with a focus on capital preservation, and growth. In order to accomplish this goal we often need to "think different". Alternative Investments allow us to earn returns without depending on traditional markets

Very few people or advisors are familiar with this asset class, and steer clear.

Alternative Investments allow investors to generate return independent of what investment markets do. The main objective of an alternative investment manager is to employ strategies whose returns generally come from the exploitation of market inefficiencies. In many cases people who use alternative strategies are able to get market like returns with less risk than the broad market.

The most common users of alternative strategies are institutional investors like Pension Funds or Endowments and they are used primarily as a risk management strategy.

Most alternative strategies are only available to accredited investors.

We have a lot of experience in dealing with alternative investments and feel they are imperative to building a strong portfolio.

Some of our common Alternative Investment Strategies include the following;

- Long/Short Funds
- Market Neutral Strategies
- Flow Through Shares
- Principal Protected Notes

Due Diligence is very important in working with Alternative Investments due to different regulation and out of the ordinary investing styles. We have invested in our education on this subject, and some of our advisors do the majority of their business in this space.
